Don’t let the name deceive you. Winter Park Resort, a short 67 miles from downtown Denver, is as exciting during the summer as it is during its namesake season. Family Skiing Outing at Winter Park CO

Nestled in the scenic Fraser Valley along U.S. Highway 40, Winter Park’s natural beauty is as much a reason for visiting as the many recreational activities that await you. In fact, whether you drive, fly or take the famed Ski Train out of Denver’s Union Station, getting there is half the fun. With snow capped peaks rising up from crisp, green meadows and the magnificent Colorado Rockies and Continental Divide as a backdrop, Winter Park Resort will inspire your senses as much as fuel your desire for adventure.

Summer Activities at Winter Park.

Mountain Biker on A Trail at Winter Park, ColoradoWhen the snow melts the fun really heats up. Winter Park Resort is home to some of the most spectacular mountain bike trails in the world, taking advantage of the resort’s natural terrain, vertical descents and expansive lift system to carry riders to various points throughout the park. There are over 600 miles of trails in and around Winter Park so if want a different ride each day, this is the place for you.

Looking for something faster? Try the Alpine Slide. After a quick eleven minute ride up the Arrow Chairlift, riders swish and swoosh down 3,000 feet of track, Colorado’s longest slide. The 610 foot vertical drop makes for a fast ride and a thrill you won’t forget. Open 10 AM to 5 PM during the summer, tickets for the Alpine Slide are $14 for adults over 14, $10 for children 6-13 and seniors over 70. Children under 5 are free. Note: fees are subject to change.

Skilift Rides Up The MountainFor a slower trip up and down the mountain, consider the Zephyr Chairlift, which picks you up at the base of the resort and carries you to an elevation of 10,700 feet. Enjoy panoramic views of the valley and the Continental Divide beyond. Once at the top, visit the Lodge at Sunspot for a refreshing snack or delicious lunch. Tickets for the Zephyr are $12 for adults, $8 for children.

Still up for adventure? Spend the afternoon meandering through the human maze, spinning in the GyroEXTREME, playing 18 holes of mini-golf at the base of the resort or heading back up the mountain to the disc golf course traversing the best of the trails.

Winter Activities at Winter Park.

Ski Winter ParkSnow is what Winter Park Resort is all about and whether you love to ski, snowshoe or just sitting back and enjoy the view, winter wouldn’t be the same without a trip to Winter Park.

Twenty-five lifts serve 143 designated ski trails, with another 1,200 acres of back country skiing off the trail system. Known for its moguls and steep vertical drops, skiing at Winter Park Resort is not for the faint of heart. Over 70% of the resort’s runs are designated as Advanced or Most Difficult.

Sledding at Winter Park, COThere are plenty of other snow activities however and if you don’t feel like skiing you can still enjoy the soft, fluffy stuff. Guided snowshoe tours are offered from several of the park’s trail heads and for the truly adventurous, shoes are available for rent if you want to take a self-guided route across the resort. Want to see the snow but keep warm and dry in the process? Try the heated Snowcat tour. An exciting expedition across several of the resort’s famous ski trails, Snowcat tours run two hours and start several times throughout the day.

Last but not least, chairlift tours are available in winter as well and if you want something fun to do without hitting the slopes, this is still the best way to see the mountain.
